Learning to Lose

Growing up I was a very sore loser. If you played with me and I lost, all hell would break lose.. I would start crying, whining, throwing stuff, you name it I did it. I came to know that this kind of sore loser syndrome is widespread among children who are 4-6 years old. Have you seen a child who makes everything a contest. Running out of the car will be made a race just to beat his/her siblings. Even eating lunch is a contest, where the one who finishes eating first is the winner. These kinds of crazy little competitions are started by kids who have the sore loser syndrome.. I used to do it as a kid and I know what I am saying. These kids think that winning is everything. But, sometimes winning is nothing. Parents out there should nip this behavior in the bud, because if you let the kid win all the time just to make him happy, you are just following the recipe for disaster.

Unfortunately, I grew up with sore loser syndrome and the only one who changed it for me was God. He made me fail some things in life until I understood that learning to lose is as important as learning to win. To have your head held high and your faith untouched even after a failure pleases God more than when you win. I have a feeling most Christians are turning out to be sore losers.. They are all happy and religious when everything is going fine and when they are winning, but after some losses here and there, you can see the attitude changing. God does not approve this behavior and though we are all victors in Christ Jesus we will lose some battles on the way.

We will not get what we want, no need to argue about that. The key is how you react when things are not going fine. Do you cry, whine, blame God. If you do, it should stop now... An old saying comes to mind, " Hope for the Best and prepare for the worst". Many times we forget to prepare for the worst. If you have trouble being a good loser ( probably not the best way to put it, I guess you get the point) there is one thing you need to remember. God is still on the throne, no matter what. If you lost, if you failed, if disaster struck you in the most unexpected way it is because God let it happen. He wants you to learn from it... Only rough seas can make a good sailor. In the coming days, I wish you the best, but if failure comes your way react as a mature experienced Christian and keep your faith untouched.

Desperately, helplessly, longingly, I cried:
Quietly, patiently, lovingly God replied.
I pled and I wept for a clue to my fate,
and the Master so gently said, "Child, you must wait".

"Wait? You say, wait!," my indignant reply.
"Lord, I need answers, I need to know why!
Is your hand shortened? Or have you not heard?
By Faith, I have asked, and am claiming your Word.

My future and all to which I can relate,
hangs in the balance, and YOU tell me to WAIT?
I'm needing a 'yes', a go-ahead sign,
or even a 'no' to which I can resign.

And Lord, You promised that if we believe
we need but to ask, and we shall receive.
Lord, I've been asking, and this is my cry:
I'm weary of asking! I need a reply!"

Then quietly, softly, I learned of my fate,
As my Master replied once again, "You must wait."
So I slumped in my chair, defeated and taut,
and grumbled to God, "So, I'm waiting...for what?"

He seemed, then, to kneel, and His eyes wept with mine,
and He tenderly said, "I could give you a sign.
I could shake the heavens, and darken the sun.
I could raise the dead, and cause mountains to run.

All you seek I could give, and pleased you would be.
You would have what you want - But, you wouldn't know Me."
"You'd not know the depth of My love for each saint;
You'd not know the power that I give to the faint;

You'd not learn to see through the clouds of despair;
You'd not learn to trust just by knowing I'm there;
You'd not know the joy of resting in Me
When darkness and silence were all you could see."

"You'd never experience that fullness of love
as the peace of My Spirit descends like a dove;
You'd know that I give and I save...(for a start),
But you'd not know the depth of the beat of My heart.

"The glow of My comfort late into the night,
The faith that I give when you walk without sight.
The depth that's beyond getting just what you asked
of an infinite God, who makes what you have LAST."

"You'd never know, should your pain quickly flee,
What it means that "My grace is sufficient for Thee."
"Yes, your dreams for your loved one overnight would come true.
But, Oh, the Loss! If I lost what I'm doing in you!

So, be silent, My Child, and in time you will see,
that the greatest of gifts is to get to know Me."
"And though oft' may My answers seem terribly late.
My most precious answer of all is still, 'WAIT'."

Prayer Journal

Yesterday night I found myself prancing around the room trying to pray. I was guilty of not spending much time in prayer, and when you do not pray enough, you are starving your inner man. So, it was taking its toll on me and yesterday I was determined to make amends. I enjoyed His presence in prayer again, but I went a bit further. To ensure that I will keep myself in His presence, I decided to keep a Prayer Journal. Now, this journal will contain a list of all the needs I have been addressing to God in prayer. The Journal will also record how God is acting with regards to the needs. This will make my prayer more serious and urgent. Lots of times , we as Christians do not know what we are praying for. I believe that prayer should come from the heart and that we should be able to say everything to God uncut and unedited. But, sometimes this might lead our prayer to become nothing but thinking aloud. To avoid this, I believe we should have a list of all the things we are praying for . As we move on, we will see and will be able to appreciate God's miraculous hand in our lives. I will be posting about how my journal is going.

Great Song by down Here

Yesterday night as I heard this song on the radio I was having my own worship service on my bed. Here are the lyrics. The song is also posted at the end.... Check it out.

Follow the star to a place unexpected
Would you believe after all we’ve projected
A child in a manger

Lowly and small, the weakest of all
Unlikeliness hero, wrapped in his mothers shawl
Just a child
Is this who we’ve waited for?

Cause how many kings, stepped down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
How many Gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that has torn all apart?
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?

Bringing our gifts for the newborn savior
All that we have whether costly or meek
Because we believe
Gold for his honor and frankincense for his pleasure
And myrrh for the cross he’ll suffer
Do you believe, is this who we’ve waited for?
It’s who we’ve waited for

How many kings, stepped down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
How many Gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that has torn all apart?
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?
Only one did that for me

All for me
All for you
All for me
All for you

God Bless the USA

Our Father who art in Heaven. Today I pray from the bottom of my heart that you fill our new President Barrack Obama with wisdom from above to lead us not only into prosperity but to a better Nation. I pray that you forgive this country who has lost its first love for you, forgive us because we have rejected you through our actions and words. Have mercy on us Lord, we are still your people, do not forsake us and do not count our sins against us. Give us a wonderful future, and when you return in the clouds to take your bride, let a multitude of people be taken away to be with you. Till then, allow us to be the beacon to this dark world. Allow us to lead the world in truth and Love. Help us Lord, to follow your path till it all comes to an end. We are not afraid of wars and rumours of war because we know that our keeper neither slumbers nor does He sleep. Protect us and Guide us just like you always did. In Jesus Name I pray.

Are you Broken?

Does life feel like everything you held dear is going away from your grasps. Do you feel as if someone has wronged you in ways you can never forget. Are you in a place where you know for sure that there is nothing left to do. The question is Are you broken?. We have heard a lot of things about how to mend a broken heart. But, all that "self help" has got you and I nowhere. So, today let us go to the greatest healer of all time. Jesus. He sees everything that is hurting you and he knows more than you do what the exact reason behind your sorrow is. But, there is something He wants to do while you are still heart broken. He wants to work in you and change you, so that when your heart is made whole again, you won't be the person you were again. Did you know that it takes "Broken" soil to cultivate plants, it takes "Broken" clay to make a pot, it takes "Broken" clouds to give rain ( These thoughts are not mine - I heard it from a sermon made by John Hagee). So being broken is not that bad after all. Let God work in you during these days when you feel everything is over. The Bible says that God cannot overlook a broken Heart and a broken Spirit. Jesus is closer to you in the sad moments of life than He is during the happier moments of life. So, if you are broken, it also means that He is near and ready to work on you. It is time for you to surrender and be changed. Will you?

Last few days, I was not in the best of moods for some reason. I felt something was just keeping me from being happy, but no matter how hard I tried, I could not figure out what it was for sure. I prayed about it, asked myself .... but all attempts from my behalf were futile. I wonder if anyone out there can relate to what I am trying to say. Well, the good news is that God had plans to rescue me from the unexplained sadness in my life. Yesterday morning my dad's cousin and her whole family showed up at our house. They live in Atlanta and wanted to pay us a visit during the weekend. At first, it did not sound like good news, but boy was I wrong. The family that visited us consisted of 4 children (three little girls aged 8,6 and 3 + a 18 month old boy). I spent a lot of time with the children, playing their little (also silly) games and showing them stuff. I was taken to another world by these children. I felt like being a child all over again.. I don't know how to describe it in words but all I can say is that these 4 angels gave me back the joy that I somehow lost over the week.Through all this, God taught me that sometimes he wants us to be like little kids taking comfort in his arms without focusing on the problems in our life. We all worry, and I am no different. In the future, I wish I could show such child like faith and innocence in my life. If I can succeed at that, I would be able to console others like these children consoled me even without telling me anything about my sorrow. They did not open the Bible, they did not lead me in worship but they still touched me. Can we do that, a little more?. Can we touch lives just because of our actions and because of what God made us to be. Yes we can. Let it be our prayer that people may see Jesus through all our lives.

How's everything Going?

The New year is now moving on in full swing, and we all made a lot of resolutions. I am just curious to know whether all of you out there are keeping your resolutions. All I resolved to do this year was to read the whole Bible in this year and to start running. The "reading the Bible Part" is going on smoothly, but the running part is now suspended until better weather comes my way. Wait is that an excuse, well if it is, at least it is a good one. LOL. Other than that my life is still the same but I am growing daily in the Lord. As we grow we throw a lot of things away which we held so precious to us. Sometimes, I reflect on my life and I am so ashamed and surprised to see all the worthless things I followed in my life. Maybe I am still following some of those stuff in my life. My aim is to get rid of everything that stands in God's way of taking first place in my heart. In the new year I got a new part time job, which I am getting used to..The way in which God gave me this job is such a miracle that I would like to share it with you some other time. Now as I have said all that is going on in my life, I want to know some things that have been going on in your life. Are you keeping your new year resolutions?. Are you happy in the midst of the recession?. Remember that a good beginning is half the work done. If you are having trouble doing all that you wanted to do, don't give up. Giving up is not an option for Christians. Anything and everything is possible with God. So persevere and see the results. Have a great day.

Listening to God

Listening to God is the most important thing a Christian needs to learn to do in his/her life. First, we need to come to terms with the fact that God can speak. He can speak to your circumstance through God's word which is the Bible. A verse which made very little sense yesterday can make a whole lot of sense today, if you open your hearts and ears to listen. I believe there is a verse for every problem we face in the Bible. If only we could search it like miners in a quarry. We just run past the "same old verses" again and again like reading a newspaper, if only we could meditate on it more would we able to hear God speak. Sometimes, I wait for God to speak through an audible voice, when he already told me what he wanted me to do through my father or mother. Yes, that's right, God can speak through people. We only have to be able to recognize his sound. The Bible records an incident where a donkey talked on the behalf of God to a prophet. If God can talk through a donkey, he surely talk through any man and woman of God, not only pastors. God can also influence our thoughts, He can give you an idea about something you would never have thought about. Just like the devil tempts us by first attacking our thoughts, God gives us his thoughts and his ideas. I pray that God would continue to talk to me in whatever way he wants. I am tired of hearing the craziness this world has to say. There is nothing as sweet as His unchanging Word. If my ears hear anything, let it hear the Word of God. We can close our eyes, but we can never close our ears. We always have to be listening to something or the other because Faith comes from hearing, and hearing the word of God. May God help us all to be listeners, may we listen to God when we pray without just complaining to Him. God bless you.

T emptation is one of the most interesting things that I have learned as a Christian. Everyone has tempting thoughts, once in a while, even non-Christians. What is Temptation?, Why does it come?, Is it a sin to be tempted?. Let us dig deeper and in the process answer these questions.Temptation starts as a simple thought but ends up to be a force which changes our will and makes us do things which we told ourselves and others that we will not do. When it is over, we ask ourselves, "How on earth did I do that". Being tempted is not a sin, but giving in to temptation is. To understand temptation, we have to see our lives as a fort. God has built a fort of protection around ourselves, but because he loves us He has also given us the free will to walk in and out of the fort. Many times we desire all that is outside the fort and we move out of the fort. We get lost in a search to satisfy our flesh, then we come back into our fort. As we come in, we forget to lock the gates of our fort and we live in a false sense of security. God can protect you by building a fort around you, but it is our responsibility to keep the gates shut to the evil one. Seeing the gates open, the devil sneaks in unnoticed and then starts to work his way into everything that we held precious. He makes war against us, a war we are bound to lose without our God's help. Whatever I have said, until now is inevitable. The devil will sneak in, he will tempt you now and then but here is what we have to do when we know he has breached our walls.

We have to hold out the temptation long enough for God's grace to see us through. Because it us who left the Gates of our fort open, God lets us be tempted for some time, but he knows our weaknesses and He has a plan to save you. He knows just how much you can withstand. If you hold out temptaion for some time, we will see that the devil will flee. The Word of God says that if we resisit the devil he will flee. Next time you are tempted, hold out until God's reinforcements arrive. If you can do that, and win over temptation your faith will be increased greatly and you will be a stronger Christian. Remember, prevention is always better than cure. Ask yourself, are your gates closed.

Facing the Giants

All was over. My knees hit the ground, tears filled my eyes, I laid down my weapons there was nothing left to be done. The giant had neared and in a matter of seconds it would all be over. Suddenly, someone picked me up, He cleansed me, He gave me new weapons and healed my wounds. Today, I am a giant killer, I have killed many of my giants and I wont stop till every one of them is down.

My dear brothers and sisters we are all giant killers. Different people have different giants to destroy. For some it is the giant of fear, for some it is the giant of lust and for some it maybe the giant of doubt. Each of us need to resolve this new year to take down every giant systematically and let us see at the end of the year how many giants will remain standing. He trains our fingers for war, and our war is not against people but against the principalities of darkness. We might have lost many battles but I assure you if you take up your weapons and fight We will win this war. Are you ready for war?.

Stop Complaining, Start Praising!

When was the last time you made a conscious effort to praise God for things you would normally take for granted. Its a fact that having a roof over your head, a bed to sleep on and a clean drinking water makes you one of the richest people on planet earth. But,the world that we live in constantly makes us want more through advertisements and false promises. I just collected a set of hard hitting facts from a site called Read it and praise God for all that you have. This new year let us be a praising people and not a complaining people.

1. More than 80 percent of the world’s population lives in countries where income differentials are widening.

2.According to UNICEF, 26,500-30,000 children die each day due to poverty. And they “die quietly in some of the poorest villages on earth, far removed from the scrutiny and the conscience of the world. Being meek and weak in life makes these dying multitudes even more invisible in death.”

3.Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen

4.Water problems affect half of humanity:

  • Some 1.1 billion people in developing countries have inadequate access to water, and 2.6 billion lack basic sanitation.
  • Almost two in three people lacking access to clean water survive on less than $2 a day, with one in three living on less than $1 a day.
  • More than 660 million people without sanitation live on less than $2 a day, and more than 385 million on less than $1 a day.
  • Access to piped water into the household averages about 85% for the wealthiest 20% of the population, compared with 25% for the poorest 20%.
  • 1.8 billion people who have access to a water source within 1 kilometre, but not in their house or yard, consume around 20 litres per day. In the United Kingdom the average person uses more than 50 litres of water a day flushing toilets (where average daily water usage is about 150 liters a day. The highest average water use in the world is in the US, at 600 liters day.)
  • Some 1.8 million child deaths each year as a result of diarrhoea
  • The loss of 443 million school days each year from water-related illness.
  • Close to half of all people in developing countries suffering at any given time from a health problem caused by water and sanitation deficits.
  • Millions of women spending several hours a day collecting water.
  • To these human costs can be added the massive economic waste associated with the water and sanitation deficit.… The costs associated with health spending, productivity losses and labour diversions … are greatest in some of the poorest countries. Sub-Saharan Africa loses about 5% of GDP, or some $28.4 billion annually, a figure that exceeds total aid flows and debt relief to the region in 2003.
This is just part of the story, follow the link to read more and know how privileged you and I are.

Happy New Year

Iknow its a little late but I want to wish you all a happy new year filled with the Lord's Blessings. May all of us grow to the stature God wants us to see us, May we learn new things daily and may all of us be able to act according to our New Year Resolutions. Talking about resolutions, I made some this year, but I was a little amazed to see that many of the bloggers that I follow have not taken any resolutions at least as of now. Have we all lost hope that we can keep our decisions, come on I am not good at keeping decisions too but I need to try, we all need to try. So I came up with two resolutions. I found a little "Read the bible in a year plan" online and I decided to start running to keep myself fit. Also this year I would like to spice up the blog with some of my favorite misadventures that will crack you up.Happy new year once again.
